Less serious symptoms

Hi.
I guess by " The onset of less serious symptoms tends to precede the onset of moderate symptoms, which precedes the onset of serious symptoms."
(from:http://focus.psychiatryonline.org/article.aspx?Volume=2&page=558&journalID=21 )

they mean the least serious symtoms, am I right?
