Length of a work

Hi Friends,

If someone asks to describe the length of a work, how do we say it?

For instance:

This essay is 4000 words.

This novel is about 50000 words.

Do we also add '50000 words long' etc.? What are the other ways of describing length?

Thanks so much in advance.

Brad

You could say either "This essay is 4,000 words long" or "This is a 4,000-word essay." You could also say how many pages long it is.
