I'm sorry about the diagram. It did not work out the way I wanted it.
(I'm very confused with 'across' as in 'cut across the paper', does this 'across' mean vertical cutting or horizontal cutting? I've tried to find it out from the internet for over two weeks now and I keep coming up with many pictures that I can't really tell, or phrases I can't decide.)

Tina, This may help you. Cut across - connotes side to side cutting, meaning horizontally. Cut along the side - means cutting length -wise. If you have to cut something shorter, you will need to cut it horizontally. Conversely, if you want to make something narrower, you have to cut it vertically, meaning along side.
