Lending your laptop to a stranger?

Hi all

I've seen this happen a number of times in movies and TV series. A person gets asked by a complete stranger if they could borrow the person's laptop for a short time to, for instance, check their email. I rememeber seeing this happen in a number of senarios including one during a train journey, in a cigar club and in a library. I would only ever lend my laptop to someone I know or an honest looking stranger on a longhaul train journey or on a plane.

Is this a typical request in English speaking countries? What would you do? What should I say if I don't feel comfortable with their request?

Thanks

Never be serious about movies. Otherwise, you'd be puzzled and sometimes disappointed. The logic is different in a movie from real life.
