Could I say that 'lemming like obediance' means 'blindly following something'?

I guess he thinks of lemmings as 'obedient'. I don't.

The underlying idea, of course, is that you took an offered piece because that was what everyone always did.

Perhaps it's just blindly following the rules, without questioning or thinking.
That's a kind of acquiescence that borders on obedience, not to any authority figure, but to an ingrained tradition or instinct.
