Leg-lengthening/ leg-lengthened surgery

Hi everyone

Recently I’ve encountered a question in a close test. So, my question is- why it’s ‘leg-lengthening’ surgery instead of ‘leg-lengthened’? From my understanding, a leg is passively lengthened by maybe implanting something in the body.

Big thanks for reading my question and helping me explain the grammar for my student.
