left the table in a mess

Hours of work has left the table in a mess.

Is the sentence correct? How to describe a table with books, papers etc. scattered all over?

I think your expression is correct, but check again the grammar. Theoretically. it should be "Hours of work have left the table in a mess".

Thanks for pointing out the grammar mistake (or grammatical mistake?). "Clutter" is the right word to describe the situation of my table. I was looking for it. Thanks.

Abilthe grammar mistake (or grammatical mistake?).
I've seen both used. A grammarian has pointed out that it should be 'grammar mistake'.
