When describing a picture I often have to refer to the positions of people.
Is it possible to say: The left man is wearing a shirt, the right man is wearing a pullover.
To me, it sounds a little peculiar. I'd say the "man on the left".... but is the version mentioned above also possible / idiomatic?

So - if "the left man" is not possible does this also apply to "the one man" in a sentence like:
The one man is wearing a shirt, the other a pullover? instead of One of the men is wearing a pullover, the other a shirt?
