"Led" or "Has Led" difference

Hi, I was just wondering, in this instance, would “has led” or simply “led” be grammatically correct in the final line?

If either… It’s a bit awkward, I know, but I want the sentence to at least make sense.

In time, my heartache dissipates
As the black lake reveals its secret
And whispers a cryptic, hallowed truth
That led me to the embrace of death.

Thanks in advance!

Would you say that, in full, this piece makes sense? It's old, but I feel like it's not worth giving up on, so I don't mind editing it, if need be. It's the first two sentances which I am a little "iffy" about.

These waters have imprisoned me
Within a dream bereft of colour
And a world of no absolution
That merely mocks the sorrow of youth.
For my tears have fallen, alone,

Overall, I find it too vague and sentimental, with no real incisiveness. I would abandon it and begin to think more concretely and with immediacy and impact.
