When you leave your house for work in the morning, which to say to your family?
1. I am leaving.
2. I leave.
3. I go.

Should it be present progross or simple present?

But don't you think it's too short amount of time to describe with -ing? You say the sentence and a second later you are gone already.

But you say it as you are in the process of leaving. That can take some time -- putting on your coat, fishing for your keys, kissing the kids and opening the door. It''s not like a nanosecond!

It's not the length of time is essential here; it's the action itself, i.e. your leaving, that is in progress.
