Leave someone to their proofs

Hi, this is from a lawyer's letter. I don't understand the part in bold.


"Defendant denies generally each and every allegation set forth in plaintiffs' Complaint and leaves plaintiffs to their proofs"


I guess this means 'plaintiffs need to prove it better', but I am not sure very much.
