If you work for a small business, you can have a word with the owner and see what they say In either case, a face to face approach is going to be best - I don't think a letter or email will help in the first instance, unless your contract definitely says that you can give up leave and take income in lieu I expect this is forlorn but, if there's a trade union representative at your workplace, they are definitely the first person to have a chat with Dave
