Leave one to wonder

Dear folks,

Just scanning a passage a while ago, I came across

the following expression:

Leaving one to wonder, where did it come from?

Can I understand it this way?

It's up to you to decide where it came from.

Please help me figure it out correctly.

Thank you in advance.

Ray
