Letter Writing

Leave Letter

Hi,

if writing a leave letter after one is absent, the sentence, "please grant me leave" is regarded unnecesary in British English.

if the authority was notified verbally prior to or on the day of the absence, do we need to add this sentence?

please help me with this ASAP

regards,

Maddy

It depends entirely upon the requirements of your company. It is 'not required' in British English as we do not write these letters. So, you can't follow our rules on how to correctly phrase one - we don't have any rules.

Hi Nona,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

here in India, absence gets you a negative marking or a reprimand whereas a leave (here) is an absence authorized/permitted by the management and does not have any repurcussions.

so a line at the end is added to mark the absence as leave.

Having said that, i must thank you for clarifying the point.

We have the same idea here too, but I still don't how you can 'request' something you've already taken!
