Which is correct ?


Change lanes the least/fewest number of times possible.

I don't much like either of them, but "least" is the more logical of the two. "Number of" is the problem. For "fewest" it should be "Change lanes the fewest times possible." I don't like that, either, as a matter of style. Change lanes as seldom as possible.
