Research suggests that the majority of criminals who are sent to prison commit crimes when set free. What are the reasons? What can be done to solve the problem?

It is argued that the number of ex-offenders committing crimes again after having been released back into society is significant. It seems to me that several reasons could cause this social issue and governments should take measures to tackle this problem.

On the one hand, there are some main causes leading to this issue. The first one is that the number of job opportunities is limited because of the prejudices of people and the lack of knowledge and the necessary skills of ex-offenders. As a result, they could not have enough money to meet their basic needs, such as food and accommodation, which resorts them to turn to crime again. Second, the material lifestyle of these people could be one of the main factors. It is likely that criminals usually tend to prefer to earn easy money instead of putting effort and time into work, so those who are set free could follow the same life to satisfy their demands without working hard.

On the other hand, governments should impose policies to alleviate this serious social problem. The first method could be delivering lectures in order to raise awareness of criminals when they are still serving a prison sentence, which helps them recognize the value of morality. It criminals could understand their behaviors are wrong and illegal, the rate of committing crimes again of these people after being released back into the community would decrease. Second, governments should organize vocational training courses, helping criminals to gain skills and knowledge relating to specific professions when they are in prison. As a result, when they reintegrate back into society, they could put the knowledge gained into practice, which helps them have more job opportunities and could support their families without continuing crimes.

In conclusion, although several reasons resulting in this problem, governments could take measures to solve this social issue.
