'learn' vs 'study'

Could you tell me which ones are right among following sentences? Thank you in advance.

1A. I'm learning Japanese every Saturday.

1B. I learn Japanese every Saturday.

2A. I'm studying Japanese in my free time.

2B. I study Japanese in my free time.

They're all correct. The first 2 (1A, 1B) sound odd, because in common usage you wouldn't talk about learning at specific points in time, as you would with studying. Usually we talk about learning slowly, consistently over a long period of time.

  • They're all correct.
  • The first 2 (1A, 1B) sound odd, because in common usage you wouldn't talk about learning at specific points in time, as you would with studying.
  • Usually we talk about learning slowly, consistently over a long period of time.
  • Also, in 1B, when you say you "learn Japanese", it sort of implies that you learned all of Japanese.
  • So the sentence sounds funny, because it sounds like you learned Japanese on a Saturday, and then the next Saturday you learned it all over again.
