Learn or study?

I find a couple of websites that explain the difference between learn and study but I have doubt. It's said learning is the gaining of knowledge while studying is the process.

I understand. However, for many years, I believe that "I am learning English" or "I am learning to swim" should NOT be wrong.

According to their explanations, is "I am studying English" or "I am studying how to swim" correct? It doesn't sound right!
