"learn better English" ??

Hi,

I'm just wondering about this sentence:

"I want to learn better English"

It sounds incorrect to me, but I don't know why.

Could someone please tell me whether it is in fact correct, or if not, why (and also what it should be instead - I would probably have said, "I want to improve my English"... )

Thank you!
