Learn A New Idiom

Hi,

I want to tell someone I learnt an idiom which was new to me. Can I say this sentence?

"I learnt a new idiom yesterday."

I'm wondering if the sentence above can be read as 'I learnt a newly coined idiom'.

Thank you in advance.
