Hi Mister Micawber,

Thanks a lot!
But I don't know why it turns into that meaning?

The facial expression for recognition leaped (= jumped) = quickly appeared.

Hi,Mister Micawber,

You give me a good idea of it{Scarlett took a step back as mutual recognition leaped into both faces.}.

Can it be made a rough paraphrase like the sentence below?

She took a step back as the sight turned into both faces to make recognition each other

No. I see that your 'paraphrasing' has not improved over the last year. There is no way that can be accepted as an intelligible sentence.
