Lead run

Hi,

Could you please explain to me what is "lead run" like in this sentence:

"The Bulldogs scored the lead run in the eighth when..."











and what is the meaning of eighth ninth etc. in this context.

Actually, both are possible. The lead/leading run could be the one which allowed them to win the game. (also, "the winning run.")

"a three-run lead" would mean that the leading team at that point had scored three more runs than the losing team.

Perhaps in the end, they beat them by a three-run margin.
