Lead-rope

In the following excerpt of poetry,

I wish I knew what you wanted.
You block the road and won't give me rest.
You pull my lead-rope one way, then the other.
You act cold, my darling!
Do you hear what I say?

What is meant by "lead-rope"? Does it mean "lead" as in the metal lead,or "lead" as in "leading"?

The rope by which you are leading me.

The rope which you use to lead me.

"Lead" has two pronunciations: the metal (noun) is pronounced "led," and the verb "to lead" is pronounced "leed."

It's of course figurative. Perhaps you're dragging me along as if I were a donkey.
