lay/lit

Dear members

I came up with an idea of burning some grass and 'lay' inside of the burnt area.

I cautiously guess that the 'lay' in the sentence above have to change to 'lit' instead of 'lay'.
Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

I do not understand what action you mean. — I came up with the idea of burning some grass and lying (=placing my body) inside the burnt area.

Thanks to Mister Micaweber!!

I see. I have to write to 'lying' in the sentence to mean correctly.

But I have another question.
Would you explain why 'the idea ~' instead of 'an idea ~"?

Thanks

Because the idea is made specific by the end of the sentence.
