Lay out clothes

Found my shirt on the floor.
Thanks for laying it out.

Can you tell me what "lay out" means here?

Hi To lay out clothes is to place them in a neat way so that they are ready for a person to put on - usually, clothes are laid out on a piece of furniture, such as a bed or chest If your shirt is lying on the floor then no one has laid it out. I think the phrase is sarcastic (saying the opposite of what it means) Dave
