Lay hidden

When we are happy, we also enlarge our capacity to be present to what is difficult, to heal our sorrow, and to transform our pain. We see ways through our difficulties that previously lay hidden. And we become someone whose presence is reliable and helpful to others.

In this text that previously lay hidden is not clear. Does that sentence mean we can find a way to solve our difficulties that potentially existed in the past?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Mariott, The author could also have written: "We see ways through our difficulties that were previously hidden" (because we are happy now). , solve) them. Hope this helps.

Hello Mariott,

The author could also have written: "We see ways through our difficulties that were previously hidden" (because we are happy now).

He chose a more poetic way of saying the same thing by envoking the idea of difficulties that were lying hidden until "we" discovered a way to see through (i.e., solve) them.

Hope this helps.
