Laughed me out of ..../positive mind towards or against

Hi

If somebody says "they laughed me out of my fears" does it mean that they laughed so long that I stopped being afraid?

A small boy told his parents that he read in the paper about different illnesses and he was afraid that he might be ill. He says, when I told them about it, my: parents laughed me out of my fears, and I have kept a positive mind towards or

against patent medicine advertisements ever since.

1. Does it mean they laughed so stongly or so long that he stopped being afraid?

2. I understand that one can keep a positive mind towards something but not against something? Can you keep a positive mind against something?

Clive Was he for or against patent medicine?
Hi

I'd like to know that myself. I think he was indifferent to patent medicines advertisements. So maybe he was neither for nor against them. That's how I see it.
