latter-day Romantic artist

Does "a latter-day Romantic artist" mean "he is a contemporary romantic artist, while romanticism belongs to the past"?

Text:

Two more TV commercials testify to this ability to transform the normal tropes of consumerism: Twister (1996), a commercial for the Volvo 850T-5 ; and God Bless the Child, a commercial for the Volkswagen Passat (1990). Examining these two works again supports the notion of Kaye as a latter-day Romantic artist.
