Is this sentence correct:


"The weather in South Australia is mild, but as the latitudes elevate, temperatures rise, and the continent is pure and simply desertic."

You may be right. South latitudes are marked with the "minus" sign, the North ones with "plus". So, strangely enough, the latitudes of the South hemisphere are lower at the pole and higher at the equator
