Late for school

Hello Teachers!



Before I go to school I find time is late.

I can say,” I am late for school now.”

And then when I get to school, what should I say to my classmate?

Q1

A: Jacky, you are late.



B: Yes. I am late for school today.

B: Yes. I was late for school today.

Which is correct?

Q2

How long can people last to ask “Jacky, you are late.”?

when can people say "Jacky, you were late?”?

Q3

And then when after school, what should I say to my Mom?

a/ Mom. I am late for school today.

b/ Mom. I was late for school today.

c/ Mom. I go to school late today.

d/ Mom. I went to school late today.

"just as you enter" seems is very soon maybe within 1 or 2 seconds.

late is adverb. So it has nothing do with time. It is the verb that changes with time.
I am late. You say this for example when you enter place at 10 instead of 9.45
I was late. You say this for example when you entered the place at 10 instead of 9.45
