Could you please tell me why there is NO article before day?
Late morning is my favorite time of day.
(why not the day?)

PS: Could we say the same thing about late night, I mean--late night is my favorite time of day?

Actually it could be the day as well. There's no special reason. Some people use the article, some don't: It's that time of [the] year.
