Lastings vs durable

Hi

I usually hear folks use the word lastings to describe things which can be used for a long time.

Is it not the word "durable" which is more appropriate?

E.g. THis pair of shoes is durable or This pair of shoes is lastings? Which is more correct?

Thank you.

'Lastings' as in your example is not possible as far as I know. You may be mis-hearing.

The word you're looing for is "lasting", not "lastings".

As an adjective, "lasting" is used with certain abstract nouns ("lasting memories", "lasting impression", "lasting legacy", "lasting peace"), but it is not normally used of concrete objects like shoes. "durable" is OK to use, as in "These shoes are durable", "These are durable shoes".

"long-lasting" has a wider application
