“Last” or “past”

Dear all.
I was not here last five days. or
I was not here for the past five days.
I have heard people are speaking like first sentence. Are they both correct?

  • I was not here ( for ) the past five days.
  • You don't need "for", but it's not wrong with "for".

I was not here (for) the past five days. You don't need "for", but it's not wrong with "for".
