Question

I'm just wondering if I called to my English friends' last name without Miss.Mr.or Mrs.

I sometimes see that scean and it seems thay are on intimate

even male to male, female to female or male to female, whoever.

But I 'm not sure if my friends mind when I called like that.

Please tell me about that why people sometimes do, what kind of people is called like that

,it is rude thing or nothing out of ordinary.

I am not very familiar with that way of addressing people. It seems to me that the surname alone might be used in the military and occasionally in the business world, and then only from a superior or among equals -- never to a superior.

The use of names is very dependent on the cultural customs of the place where you live. It also depends on the actual context and situation.

eg are you talking to a friend?

eg are you a teacher talking to a student?

eg are you a judge talking to a criminall?

In Canada, I never hear people use simply the last name when talking to people. Normally, first names are used.

Consider 'Tom Smith'. Most people, including all his friends, will call him 'Tom'. On formal occasions, he will be called 'Mr. Smith'. Rarely or never will he be called simply 'Smith'.

It's the same for a woman. eg Mary Smith.
