Last name

I'm just wondering if I called to my English friends' last name without Miss.Mr.or Mrs.

I sometimes see that scean and it seems thay are on intimate

even male to male, female to female or male to female, whoever.

But I 'm not sure if my friends mind when I called like that.

Please tell me about that why people sometimes do, what kind of people is called like that

,it is rude thing or nothing out of ordinary.

I am not very familiar with that way of addressing people. It seems to me that the surname alone might be used in the military and occasionally in the business world, and then only from a superior or among equals -- never to a superior. CJ
