Last morning

He came to see me last morning.
He came to see me yesterday morning.
according to my textbook the first sentence is wrong too, we can say last night, why can't we say last morning?
is it because it's not idomatic to say last morning?
thanks

Yes, I am afraid that the only explanation is 'idiom'. 'Night' is for some historical reason treated differently: Last night, yesterday morning, yesterday afternoon. At night, in the morning, in the afternoon.
