Last minute shoppers or last-minute shoppers?

Which is correct?

Top answer

Properly it should be "last-minute shoppers". However, people increasingly leave out hyphens, either because they think they look fussy or because they don't understand their use. Therefore, it would not be unusual to see it without a hyphen.

Thanks.

What about these examples.

I put on my water resistant boots.
I have mind altering side-effects.

Should 'water resistant' and 'mind altering' be hyphenated in your opinion?

Thanks Again.

What about if I were saying 'internal and mind-altering side effects.'

Should there be any additional hyphens in there?

I think it's OK. "side effect" is acceptable with or without a hyphen.

For some reason I thought it may have been 'internal-and-mind-altering side effects.'
