Languid deep-lying creator

Yasuhito Engo [MIDFIELDER] Japan's record caps holder who is on his way to a third World Cup despite being an used substitute in 2006. Languid deep-lying creator named Asian Player of the Year in 2009.

In the article above, what does the part 'Languid deep-lying creator' mean? I guess it means "Endo may look languid and is often positioned deep on the pitch, but a creator of opportunities," but I'm not so sure. What is your take?

Yes, it was my typographical error. It ought to have been "unused."
