A few languages are increasingly spoken in different countries, while the usage of others is rapidly declining. Is it a positive or negative development?
It is noticeable that several languages have become prominent in the recent years whereas a number of those has been gradually spoken less and less. To my way of thinking, this trend is beneficial to humans despite some demerits.
First and foremost, individuals who have language intelligence clearly will not have any chance to improve their talents. While most language enthusiasts are always keen on conquering unpopular languages, the popularity of some of them may decrease which closes the door for them to fulfil their aims, as they cannot find materials and partners to practice speaking. Accordingly, I believe that it will be such a waste for their knack for learning different languages to develop their minds.
In my view, irksome as the above weakness is, people seemingly will benefit a lot from the increasing development of some languages and the decline of the others. First of all, in terms of business and politics, people who work for these fields such as businessmen, politicians and presidents do not have to pay money for translators which can be expensive. Besides, international meetings will not have to be prolonged because of the disappearance of the time when translators transform words. Hence, everything will become more straightforward and accessible. Second of all, some endangered languages also cause travelers, workers and students to enjoy doing their work aboard, especially the ones who are eager for some uncommon countries like African nations. They will not have to learn any more native languages and just simply communicate with the local in French, English and Spanish which are the three most popular languages in the world. Third of all, this development helps people across the world to be quickly well-informed about news. For example, when the WHO introduces healthy lifestyles in English, should citizens be fluent in this, they will easily understand the steps and apply them to protect themselves without waiting for subtitles.
In conclusion, however alarming the disadvantage is, I am convinced that having some languages growing in various nations and replacing the minor ones is advantageous to us.
Please help me with this. Thanks!!!!
