Landfalls for provisioning

In the following passage, what does "landfalls for provisioning" mean? Here, the author is comparing ships with biological cells.
(My understanding is that landfalls are a natural disaster, so it doesn't
seem to make sense to say landfalls are for something.)

Sailing ships, particularly older ships built when materials were scarce and landfalls for provisioning infrequent, face many of the same design challenges as cells. For example, both require that the internal workings of the system, including the crew and cargo in the case of a boat, be isolated in a controlled way from the system’s environment.

"Landfalls for provisioning" means "places or opportunities for the ship to make land to take on food and water". I've never heard landfall to mean a natural disaster of any kind. The types of disasters that you might be thinking of are probably rockfalls or landslides or mudslides .

Thank you so much. I seem to have mistaken landfalls for landslides.
