Letter Writing

Lady or gentleman

I am writing a cover letter for a job I am applying for and I am unsure of whether the person is a man or woman. Their first name is "Jesse" and I don't want to assume anything! how would I address my cover letter as personally as possible without the chance of a slip in gender?

I would call the central number for the place and simply ask the receptionist - say "I'm writing to Jesse Smith and I want to use the correct salutation. Can you tell me if it's Mr. or Ms.
