Laddish culture

When I was in the UK this past June-July I read countless stories that talked about "laddish culture." The term "laddish" isn't used in North America and I found generally that it was used to refer to males who drink too much, are misogynist, are only interested in sports and who don't perform as well as females academically. Am I right in assuming that this is the predominant sense of the phrase? Thanks

I suppose so; but there are degrees of it. You can be good academically and still act laddishly. I wouldn't say laddish behaviour was necessarily misogynist; lads generally like women but make little concession to women's liberation etc. , at least when they're with their mates. It's largely a pose; when it goes further, it becomes male chauvinism, yobbishness, and general pig ignorance.

Blokes are older lads. Lads get *** up (sometimes with the ladettes) in the pub on Friday night, then get up and play Saturday morning football. Blokes get *** up at home on Friday night then get up and watch S
