lack of methodics

Can you please tell me if I used correctly the expression lack of methodics? Perhaps it should be replaced with something that would refer to certain mistakes in methodics. (not methodology)

The outdated syllabus and lack of methodics in the interpretation of required reading are some of the reasons why Croats are reluctant to read.

Thank you

Methodics : I am not familiar with the word, nor can I draw it up from the English dictionaries. Googling it seems to show that it is used primarily in the English of eastern European countries (including Russia), and that it means methods. If it is intended to mean system or theory of method , then we already have the word methodology.

  • I would recommend that you choose the more appropriate of these: either lack of / inferior method or lack of / inferior methodology would serve famously.

Methodics is a discipline that studies how classes/teaching are/is conducted. I guess I could use something with methods.

Thanks

I think it's fine, Antonia. Saying "methods" or "metodology" changes the meaning. Methodics denotes the science on methods, same as linguistics, phonetics, etc. Go on, tell them, give them definitions! :-)

Dear Antonia

My suggestion would be "learning programme". This does not mean there is a methodology, but it does mean that there is a clear set of lessons with goals, each one leading on to new ideas. Perhaps..

- Croats find their lessons difficult because the syllabus is outdated and there is a lack of a clear learning programme

Best regards, Dave
