Lack (for)

Hi

Is « for » optional or incorrect?

Unless the ambient light in the room is beautiful and lines up with what I'm going for or if it provides enough light to fill in what I'm lacking (for) in my flash exposure, I'll cut it out all together.

Thanks

Incorrect. It's "what I'm lacking", not "what I'm lacking for".

But on another topic, the combination unless ... or if ... makes the whole sentence completely incoherent. I could not follow what you were trying to say, so I have no idea how to fix it.
