Labeling

Hello,

I've got a problem with a sentence. I'm not sure if I used the word "labeling" correctly.

"He didn't come out out of fear of labeling as "deviant".

I want to say that a homosexual didn't want to reveal his sexual identity out of fear of being stigmatized.

Thank you

Thank you for the answer. Is there any way I could keep "labeling" in this sentence? If yes, what changes should I make?

One possibility would be, "He didn't 'come out', as he was afraid of people labeling him as deviant."
