know vs do know

I know. And, I do know.
I really don't know the difference. So, I almost never us the second form. Could you please tell me the difference and also when to use it?

Plain statement: I know. "John's coming for dinner tonight." ~ "I know."
For emphasis: "You obviously don't know the difference between right and wrong." ~ "Yes, I do know the difference; I just don't care!"

That's OK. There is seldom any need for the second form.

The emphatic form (the form with 'do') is typically used to deny a contrary claim. Stress the form of "do" when speaking.
