Knock up

Hi,

When children learn to play tennis, they don't really 'hit' the balls but rather 'knock them up'.

I don't know if 'knock up' is the right word to use, but I'm trying to say that they hit the balls very very lightly and I'm sure that there's a word for it.

Thank you!

I've heard someone speak of pushing the bal l, meaning hitting with no real force.

"pat" is another possibility.

Ann225I don't know if 'knock up' is the right word to use,

It's not the best wording, considering its other meaning.
