Knock over

Hi

Some guys were sitting in a van. Maybe one or two were outside of it (but I'm not sure, the text doesn't say that).

The narrator wrote:

They were nearly knocked over when Caleb rammed the accelerator and the van crashed through some bushes and hit the road even as bullets pinged against the sides of the vehicle.

I'm wondering now, if "knocked over" means that they (the passangers) were knocked over by a car or that the other car hit the van almost knocking it over?

Also: I understand that first they were knocked over (whatever that means here) and then Caleb rammed the accelerator and when he hit the road the bullets started to ping against the van.

Is this sequence correct?

Hello Newguest They were nearly knocked over when Caleb rammed the accelerator To make sense of this we need to know where "they" were. If they were outside then the van nearly ran them over. If they were inside the van then they were knocked off balance and they nearly fell.

  • If they were inside the van then they were knocked off balance and they nearly fell.
  • I don't think your sequence is correct at the phrase states that this happens "when" Caleb rammed the accelerator.
  • I read it that the action caused the van to move suddenly and thus nearly knocked "them" over.

Hi

I think I understand now.

Caleb rammed the accelerator and then the people in the van probably fell on the floorboard (knocked over). When the van crashed through the bushes and hit the road a few bullets pinged against it.

How does it sound now?
