Does knock-off and copy-cat refer to a product that is cloned closely to the authentic one which is often illegal?
How about that, what is the term to refer to a product that they are trying to compete closely with another more reputed product, but they are not doing illegal things like cloning exactly, you can obviously see the difference from their packaging, they are legal, but they are obviously competing with a more reputed product?

- If, despite some small or cosmetic differences in appearance, or difference in packaging/branding, one product is clearly copying another, the word "copy-cat" is suitable.
