Darn it, i was wondering the same thing. I guess it's up to everyone to decide for themself. For some reason i've always it imagined metal spoons.

Knick knacks are just "collectables." They are anything you put on your shelf or on your end table. But in th song, it's just nonsense rhyme.

I'm not quite sure but I remember reading about playing knick knack in a Roddy Doyle book. It could have easily been Paddy Clarke Ah-ah. For some reason I thought it had something to do with kids ringing doorbells in the neighbourhood and legging it afterwards.
