knew/known

When my son graduated from the university, I knew his teachers for three years.

Thank you, Clive.
Does 'know' being a non-achievement verb, not have any relevance here?

Hi Clive
It is only in the forums, I learnt about it.
I think it denotes the beginning, and progress, and end of an action, for example, I had run four kilometers when my mother came.

This would be unusual. We'd normally say something like "She will have known this man for six months by X" when X is a comparatively short time away.
